Bangladesh Research and Education Network (BdREN) successfully concluded its three-day training program on network security, titled "Shielding the Digital Campus," on 29 October 2026. The program took place from 27 to 29 October 2026 at the Engineering Staff College, Bangladesh (ESCB), Ramna, Dhaka.

Thirty ICT professionals participated in the program, each nominated by one of 30 universities across the country. The initiative aimed to strengthen the capacity of university IT teams to safeguard campus networks against an evolving landscape of cyber threats. The training was conducted by Md. Zobair Khan and combined expert-led sessions with extensive hands-on lab exercises, carried out by participants on their own laptops.

The first day laid the groundwork with an overview of cybersecurity, covering layered security, Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) groups and the MITRE ATT&CK framework. Participants then received an introduction to Linux. This was followed by a session on device and infrastructure security, which drew on resources such as Shodan, Have I Been Pwned, CVE databases and CIS Benchmarks. The day concluded with a session on securing internet routing against Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks.

The second day centred on Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Testing (VAPT). Participants also gained practical experience in packet analysis using Wireshark and were introduced to Wazuh, an open-source platform for security monitoring and threat detection.

The final day focused on security monitoring through honeypots, including Canarytokens, OpenCanary, Cowrie and the APNIC HoneyNet project. The technical sessions concluded with a session on AI-backed VAPT, featuring a live demonstration on a BdREN virtual machine.

At the closing ceremony, remarks were delivered by Muhammad Majibur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer of BdREN; Ekhlas Uddin Amed, Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of BdREN; and Biplab Chandra Mahanta, Manager (Sales) of BdREN. The speakers expressed their appreciation to the participants for their active engagement and to the trainer for his practical and insightful delivery. They underscored the importance of developing in-house cybersecurity expertise within universities. They also reaffirmed BdREN's commitment to supporting the academic community through secure and reliable network services and sustained capacity-building initiatives.

The ceremony continued with the distribution of certificates of participation, formally inaugurated by Muhammad Majibur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer of BdREN. All participants received their certificates in recognition of their successful completion of the program.

BdREN extends its sincere gratitude to all participating universities for their valued nominations and looks forward to organizing further training programs of this kind for the research and education community of Bangladesh.
