
BdREN & UGC organized Workshop on e-Resources
Dhaka, July 2, 2025 —The Bangladesh Research and Education Network (BdREN), in collaboration with the ICT Division and the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh, successfully organized the“Workshop on e-Resources”today at Hotel Lakeshore Heights, Dhaka.
The event was graced byProfessor Dr. SMA Faiz, Hon’ble Chairman of UGC and Chairperson of BdREN Trust, as the Chief Guest. The workshop was inaugurated byDr. Md. Fakhrul Islam, Hon’ble Secretary of UGC, who added significance to the event with his valued presence and insights.Mr. Md. Rezaul Karim Hawlader, Director (Finance & Accounts), UGC, also actively participated in the workshop.
Treasurers, librarians, comptrollers, and Directors (Finance and Accounts) from various public and private universities participated actively. Officials from UGC and the ICSETP & HEAT projects were also present, reflecting the importance of a unified national effort toward equitable access to academic e-resources.
The workshop focused on developing a rational and sustainablesubscription modelfor availing e-books and e-journals in higher education institutions.Professor Dr. Abdullah Shams Bin Tariq, Convener of the Subscription Model Framing Committee, presented the proposed model, followed by engaging group discussions and structured feedback sessions.
The event concluded with advisory remarks from the Chief Guest, who commended BdREN’s efforts to strengthen the digital resource infrastructure in higher education. He also emphasized the importance of collaboration among stakeholders to ensure long-term sustainability.Mr. Md. Omar Faruque, Director, ICT Division, UGC, delivered a vote of thanks to the participants.
Both UGC and BdREN reiterated their expectations of full cooperation from all universities to make quality e-resources accessible to students and faculty across Bangladesh.
